Hey you hunters, you know how you get breathing heavy, your heart gets pounding and you get that little twitch when you have that trophy buck in your sights? There may be a benefit to NOT seeing the animal. Here's an amazing story starring the website owner.

Rev. George Gray of Cleveland Texas is totally blind, but this doesn’t stop him from going deer hunting.

This man has been totally blind since the age of 22. His blindness was caused by congenital glaucoma.

Pastor Ralph Castro of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Porter, Texas first came up with the idea of hunting. Pastor Castro took George to the local gun range and practiced target shooting with him. George was guided by Pastor Castro as to the direction of the barrel…."left a little, now down some, more now to the right" and so on.

Once the training was complete Art Tillman, Pastor Castro and George Gray traveled 330 miles to Eden, Texas to the deer lease.

Upon arrival at the deer lease the weather turned bitterly cold. This is good for hunting since the deer are constantly moving. About 8:30 AM on Wed. Nov. 29 an eight point buck started to move toward the deer stand. A close watch was kept on the approaching deer.

When the buck was approximately 30 yards from the stand the deer turned a little to the left. This view was perfect and George started to aim his gun. Pastor Castro gave verbal instructions to George; sitting directly behind him; with his view down the barrel of the shotgun and told him when to shoot. Gray pulled the trigger twice in quick succession and the buck fell.

"I was really excited about the kill!" said George.

"I knew if I got a shot I could possibly get him, but when it actually happened like this, I surprised myself."

The buck was approximately 150 lbs. Both Art Tillman and Pastor Castro stated, "This buck was a wall hanger!" Cornerstone Baptist Church decided to have the head mounted for George. This presentation was made on Sunday, December 24, 2007. This is the only known instance of a blind hunter shooting a buck in Texas!
